A recently published Italian scientific paper published by the NIH in the National Library of Medicine has given credence to the widely discredited opinion of so called fringe doctors, that Vitamin D does indeed protect from serious negative outcomes resulting from COVID 19 infections.
The paper titled “ Protective Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on Covid-19 Related Intensive Care Hospitalisation and Mortality: Definitive Evidence Meta Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis” was actually published on the 16th of January 2023.
Main stream journalists and Government heath advisors are predictably not sharing the information contained within it.
Here is a link to the actual paper for those wishing to study it in depth.

It has been previously reported that Vitamin D supplementation particularly for inhabitants of northern countries, could be a associated with positive outcomes in COVID-19 infections, but never before has such a conclusive study been undertaken.
It is already known that Vitamin D plays a crucial role in natural immune function and in the control of inflammation.
Vitamin D has many immune boosting functions in the human organism, some of these are listed below.
- Maintains pulmonary barrier function.
- Determines the production of antimicrobial peptides.
- Enhances neutrophil activity.
- Shifting of adaptive immune response toward T helper type 2 cells.
- Reduces the product ion of pro inflammatory cytokines.
- Increases the production of anti inflammatory cytokines.
- Prevents acute respiratory infection, and reduces complications related to influenza.
The publication states that vitamin D supplementation provides a 72% protection against admission to intensive care, in the case of a COVID-19 infection but that it also provides protection against a wide range of bacterial and viral infections.
The lower that vitamin D levels are as a base line the more effective supplementation becomes.
The study reveals a 51% protection against death from COVID-19 related infections and a 72% protection against admission to an ICU unit.
A separate study in the same publication shows that adequate vitamin D base levels provide a 54% protection against actual covid infection.
The studies suggest that a dosage of 4000 iu daily would achieve enhanced protection against several types of disease.
